Can you help support Team Pumping Marvellous as they take part in the iconic Great North Run?

A team of 16 runners from Cardiologists to a Heart Failure patient will join together to cover the Half Marathon distance on the 11th September 22.

The team of PM superheroes will be part of the incredible 60,000 determined and dedicated runners who make the Great North Run the World’s biggest and best half marathon – famous for its warm North East welcome, unbeatable atmosphere and the millions raised for good causes.

Our 16 participants all have very strong links to Pumping Marvellous and represent the 'wrap around' care a Heart Failure Patient needs to live well with Heart Failure.

MEET THE TEAM

RICH- Our incredible London Marathon Runner

"I'm Rich and I was diagnosed with Heart Failure in 2016. I'm running for Pumping Marvellous because the support they have given has been key in helping me understand my condition and enabling me to live well with heart failure"

DEBORAH- Radiographer

"I'm Deborah. I started running by starting couch to 5k 3 years ago. Running helped me working in the NHS through the pandemic. I'm taking part in the GNR for Pumping Marvellous in my friend Jamie's memory as it was a charity he was proud to work with and raise awareness of heart failure."

STEPHEN

"I’m Stephen, and both of my parents suffered from heart failure. Raising awareness of symptoms is key to early diagnosis of problems before they escalate and Pumping Marvellous leads the way in helping those who are learning to live with heart failure."

CRAIG- Our very own Ironman

"I'm Craig, I am a Cardiac Rehabilitation Physiologist and work with Pumping Marvellous to provide online exercise classes for Heart Failure patients. In my spare time I like to run and take part in endurance events, this will be the 2nd time I have taken part in the GNR for the charity.

KATE

"I'm Kate and I work for the Charity, I was inspired and persuaded to take up the challenge of the Great North Run by Rich who is an inspiration. My role within the Charity means I get to work closely with some of the many people living with Heart Failure and I will be running for each and everyone of them"

MIKE & JANINE- Our Power Couple

"We are running the GNR22 for Pumping Marvellous because we want to raise awareness of heart failure!" Janine is a heart failure specialist pharmacist who feels privileged to work with heart failure patients every day.

LAURA- Staff Nurse (Or Gold-dust as we will to call them here at PM HQ)

"My name is Laura and I am a staff nurse on a Cardiology ward. Thoughout my 9 years experience of working on the ward, I have seen the impact that heart failure can have on a persons life and those around them, not just physically but mentally. So being able to run for a charity which supports people with a diagnosis of heart failure is a privilege"

ZOE- Heart Failure Nurse

"My name is Zoe and I work as a Heart Failure Nurse in Liverpool. I see the impact that this condition has on many people's lives, both young and old. I have decided to run the GNR half marathon to riase money for PMF as I believe their work is essential to supporting heart failure patients. Plus I find their patient information leaflets super useful! I started running a few years back and I love it but I have been unable to do it as often as I would like due to different injuries. I never thought I would run a half marathon and the GNR is going to be my second, so I am really looking forward to it!"

RAJIV- Cardiologist

"I'm Rajiv Sankaranarayanan, I am a heart failure cardiologist from Liverpool. I'm running the GNR for the UK's heart failure patient-led charity The Pumping Marvellous Foundation as they do amazing work supporting people with heart failure as well as clinical teams throughout the UK to help #BEAThf"

MIKE

"I'm Mike, Rich's bother and i'm very much looking forward to the GNR supporting Rich and Pumping Marvellous helping to raise awarness for heart failure"

About the Pumping Marvellous Foundation

The Pumping Marvellous Foundation (PMF) is the UK's patient led Heart Failure charity, founded by a Heart Failure patient whose experiences shaped the goals and principles of improved patient outcomes.

About Heart Failure

Heart Failure is a life-threatening condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood around the body. It impacts all age groups.

It affects approximately 1 million people in the UK and 64 million people worldwide.

It is a chronic disease where around 50% of patients will die within five years of diagnosis.

Heart Failure mortality risk is worse than some of the most common cancers (prostate, breast, and bladder cancer).

It is the leading cause of hospitalisation for those over 65. It represents a significant clinical and economic burden.

About the BeatHF Campaign

The Pumping Marvellous Foundation has been running a national campaign to raise awareness to make heart failure clearer for everyone.
